Chess Camp (Grades 1-6)

Checkmate!

How about a 1,500-year-old game played by kings and commoners, young and old, and boys and girls, that builds memory, concentration, and reasoning skills while you play? Learn basic moves and various strategies of chess through instruction, puzzles, group activities, and a few other surprises! Join lead instructor (and Chess Wizard!) Charlie Chess for a week of learning, playing, and fun!

Open to kids with experience, those who have played once or twice, or those who don’t know the first thing about the game!

Dates, Hours, and Fees

AM Only program campers must be picked up at 12:00pm or you should select a PM Only Program during registration to create a Full Day of programming.

PM Only programs are only open to campers who are enrolled in an AM Only program.

Transition Time: Campers will be supervised for lunch and transition between AM Only + PM Only programming.

Dungeons & Dragons Summer Camp: Adventure Awaits!

Ready to embark on epic quests, battle fearsome monsters, and craft your own legendary tales? At our Dungeons & Dragons Summer Camp, you’ll dive into a world of imagination, strategy, and teamwork as you create characters, explore fantastical realms, and shape your own adventure. Whether you're a first-time player or a seasoned dungeon master, this camp is designed for all skill levels and is the perfect place to sharpen your storytelling and problem-solving abilities.

What You’ll Do:

• Create Your Character: Develop your own hero or villain using D&D’s imaginative rules! Choose from classic classes like wizard, rogue, or barbarian, and explore your character’s backstory and motivations.

• Team-Based Adventures: Join a party of adventurers and work together to overcome challenges, solve puzzles, and defeat monsters. Your decisions and teamwork will shape the fate of your group!

• Dungeon Master Prep: Ever wanted to run the game yourself? Learn tricks and tools of storytelling, improvisation, and world-building as you test your hand at being a Dungeon Master (DM) and guide your fellow players through thrilling quests.

• Roleplaying & Improv: Step into your character’s shoes! Practice acting and dialogue as you interact with fellow adventurers and NPCs (Non-Player Characters), all while having a blast in a supportive and creative environment.

• Strategic Combat: Roll dice, make tactical decisions, and experience the thrill of combat in the world of D&D. Learn how to strategize and use your character’s unique skills in battle.

• Epic Campaigns: Throughout the camp, you’ll engage in an ongoing adventure that will grow and evolve. Each day presents new challenges, rewards, and opportunities to make an impact on the story!

Codemoji Coding Camp (Grades 1-5)

Get ready to code, create, and have a blast this summer with Codemoji!

Codemoji summer programs introduce students to the exciting world of coding and computer science through engaging online and offline activities. During these programs, campers explore the basics of coding using Codemoji’s unique platform, combined with hands-on activities that demonstrate how popular websites and games are created. Throughout the week, participants gain experience with multiple coding languages, work collaboratively on programming robots, and complete creative projects. Most programs feature a week-long project that campers proudly present to their peers at the end of the session.

Program Themes

Creative Coding (1-2)

In Codemoji's Creative Coding, students will learn the basics of coding and computer science as they are immersed in STEM activities. Students will collaborate to program robots to complete tasks, work with emojis as they dive into the Codemoji platform, and participate in offline unplugged coding activities and games. Throughout the program, students will design a website and learn to utilize their newly acquired coding skills to advance through interactive lessons. The Codemoji program will challenge your students as they advance through HTML, CSS, and JS coding basics and will promote the desire to continue their coding learning outside of the classroom.

Code It (3-5)

Codemoji’s Code It program’s mission is simple: teach students to enjoy all things related to coding and the web while building problem-solving and creative thinking skills. Our teachers deliver clear and entertaining instruction to ensure students have fun while learning complex coding skills using emojis that represent HTML text, which lowers the barriers to new coders and increases their excitement and understanding of computer science. Students build animations, websites, and video games; explore multiple coding languages; program robots; create STEM-based projects both on and offline, and are encouraged to share their projects when they get home. Students also work with interactive circuit boards to understand the basics of currents and work with their teacher to build a handful of fun hands-on projects.

Game On! (3-5)

Does your student want to learn more about how video games work? In Game On, students will take their skills to the next level while learning about coding basics. During the week, students will be introduced to coding languages and how game animations are made while utilizing their new knowledge to create mini-games including “Shark Eats Fish,” “Treasure Hunt,” and more!
